Neighbors-in-Need Special Collection
Sunday, October 7 ~ during 10:00 a.m. church service
Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from direct service to community organizing and advocacy to address systemic injustice. This year, special consideration will be given to projects focusing on serving our immigrant neighbors and communities.
Crop Hunger Walk through Church World Service (CWS)
Sunday, October 21, in Newtown
CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.

For nearly half a century, CROP Hunger Walks have ensured that more
people worldwide have access to nutritious, sustainable food sources.
From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training
in Indonesia to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the
United States, CROP Hunger Walks help end hunger by raising funds to
support local food programs and the international anti-hunger work of
Church World Service.

Rake & Bake
Saturday, November 10
Peter Brady began this event with his family and 5 friends in 1998.  Now, his organization, Handy, Dandy Handyman ( HDHM.org ) has over 1000 volunteers participating in this one event each year.  Groups of volunteers help seniors and the disabled in many surrounding communities by raking leaves and other fall clean-up tasks.  This event is followed by a luncheon for clients and volunteers.  The Board of Mission & Outreach is forming a group of Bridgewater volunteers this year.  Our clients will mostly be our Bridgewater and New Milford neighbors.

We'll gather at the Friendship Hall parking lot at 7:00 a.m. and carpool to the Brookfield High School gymnasium. We must be there by 7:30 a.m. sharp to get our name tags and assignments. Refreshments, hot dogs and baked goods will be served at the gym after the event.

PLEASE SIGN UP NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 30.
A sign-up sheet is posted in the Friendship Hall or you can write to the church office at [email protected]
